L.S. Brinker provided construction management services on the Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business, located on the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and Temple Street in Detroit.
WSU MISB consists of a cohesive design of limestone, metal panel, and curtain wall glazing throughout the exterior of the building. Also included in the design is a green roof and a terrace overlooking Woodward Ave. onto the beautiful skyline of downtown Detroit. Solar fins help block/direct sunlight at the terrace which includes plant boxes and elevated brick pavers to allow for proper drainage while keeping the terrace functional.
On the ground level, an outdoor courtyard is adjacent to the atrium and auditorium. Flexible rooms across from the first-floor atrium feature a folding partition and overhead doors to separate the spaces. Once open, they create an even larger space for events and can be used in conjunction with the courtyard space as well. The auditorium has state-of-the-art technology and includes a car lift for large presentations.
Unique “Sticky Spaces” are integrated into the hallways for students. Designed for them to “stick” at MISB during those times between classes, solo, or with small groups. Large marker boards are located in the smaller rooms throughout the building for prime study and student collaboration as well.
