The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park transformed an existing 22-acre lot along the Detroit Riverfront into a world class green space with a next millennia mixed-use design that is flexible and sustainable for all to enjoy. It serves as a platform for civic engagement, respite, play and excitement for residents, businesses, and visitors to the riverfront.
L.S. Brinker served as the Construction Manager for this monumental recreation space, managing the extensive site work and abatement of existing soil contaminants, before moving into the construction of a Sports House, Park House, Playgrounds, Comfort Stations, a preserved Sea Wall and a Cove/Beach for habitat restoration and swimming.
The park also includes a 2-acre Water Garden at the experiential and geographical center of the park, freshwater wetlands that will increase habitat for vegetation, birds, and aquatic wildlife, The Hill for musical performances and movies in the Summer and sledding in the winter, and throughout the park; smaller lawns, gardens, groves, promenades, and plazas which complement the most prominent landscape destinations.
