Detroit Food Commons

L.S. Brinker has worked closely with The Detroit Black Community Food Security Network (DBCFSN), Develop Detroit and architect SDG Associates on the development of the Detroit Food Commons, a full-service grocery store that is open to the public and cooperatively owned by its members.
The new construction consists of a 2-story, approximately 33,000 sq. ft. building located at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Euclid. The first floor will consist of approximately 15,000 sq.ft. grocery co-op with healthy and locally sourced food, plus a 50-seat café. The second floor includes a 3,800 sq.ft. kitchen with space for up to four local food enterprises, as well as a 3,900 sq.ft. event and banquet space. The additional areas will serve as office space for the Detroit Food Security Network and a common area with amenities for all of the tenants to utilize.
The Food co-op provides local residents as well as college and professional patrons with locally sourced, highly quality and healthy foods in an equitable and sustainable manner, and is intended to initiate a movement toward further development in the growing Central Woodward/North end neighborhoods of Detroit.
