Project Manager, City Carpet & Flooring

  • Primary office location in Detroit, MI with travel to job sites as required.

 
General Position Summary

The Project Manager at City Carpet and Flooring oversees the management of flooring projects from award through closeout, ensuring high-quality delivery while meeting cost, schedule, and safety objectives. This role includes planning, coordination, and leadership of project activities, managing subcontractors, and resolving conflicts between stakeholders. The Project Manager works closely with clients, architects, contractors, and suppliers to align project execution with specifications, codes, and best practices.

As a leadership position, this role also involves motivating team members, fostering a positive work environment, and providing mentorship and performance feedback. Comprehensive knowledge of flooring systems and project management is essential.
 
Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project scope, budget, and schedules
  • Lead bid processes and oversee subcontractor procurement
  • Monitor project performance, including costs, schedule adherence, quality, and safety
  • Resolve conflicts among stakeholders, including owners, architects, and contractors
  • Coordinate with governing bodies and utility companies to ensure project compliance with codes and specifications
  • Produce monthly project updates, including cost and schedule reports with analyses and narratives
  • Manage change orders, subcontractor agreements, and supplier negotiations
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare contingency plans
  • Lead project control meetings and provide accurate monthly reports
  • Collaborate with the estimating department for accurate project buy-outs
  • Ensure team members have the resources, tools, and support to execute their roles effectively

 
Job Skills & Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of construction safety standards, flooring materials, and installation methods
  • Knowledge of contract administration and various project delivery methods
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and stakeholder communication
  • Proficient in Procore, Microsoft Office Suite, and other construction management tools
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and foster collaboration
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

 
Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction or flooring project management

 
Work Environment Job/Conditions
This position requires work both in office settings and on job sites. Frequent computer use, standing, walking, bending, and reaching are involved. The Project Manager must comply with all jobsite safety regulations and is expected to navigate job sites effectively.
 
Reporting Authority
The Project Manager reports to the Executive Leadership of City Carpet and Flooring.
